Mpumalanga Province: Provincial Working Committee post-meeting statement

24 June 2026: The Provincial Working Committee (PWC) of the SACP in Mpumalanga province convened a meeting attended by the PWC members, the elections team and the Young Communist League of South Africa to analyse outcomes of the voter registration weekend of 20-21 June 2026.

The presentation of political overview and election report reflected the strength and good performance of the SACP election structures during the local government voter registration weekend. The VD-based branches where the Party is active performed well, with the active role played by the YCLSA in the province.

The PWC further analysed the state of the youth, the working class and poor as well as the regional, continental and global developments as a cause for concern. It is on those bases that the guide from Lenin that the revolution is the festival of the masses” had a comprehension in terms of paying more attention to challenges facing the young people and a need for an intervention to deal with the frustrations that are facing the working class.

The PWC noted with concern the misconduct inside one voting station involving an IEC official at Victor Khanye Municipality, where party material and voters’ ID bundles were improperly handled. This is condemned in the strongest possible terms, and the IEC should stop rearing its ugly head. The IEC has a role and responsibility to bring discipline to all the voting stations towards upholding the principle of free and fair elections.

The SACP wants to take this opportunity to appreciate the good work that all Communist Party members played in the Mpumalanga province in ensuring visibility during the voter registration weekend and welcome the confidence shown by the people to come to our tables and even ask for membership application forms. This is an indication that people are tired of the barbaric system of capitalism and that they need an alternative mode of production, which is socialism.

The PWC emphasised the need to hold the Conference of the Left by the month of August in Mpumalanga. Processes have already started with consultations with parties that will form the steering committee and deal with all the logistics. This will be very important towards entering independent working-class struggles with other left organisations and expediting the defeat of our class enemy in all key sides of power, including the state.

The SACP was also approached over the last weekend by the Dvunge Trust, which has been grappling with the issue of land restitution for the past 31 years in the Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality, and there has been no progress made to date. This is a cause for concern, as land is a principal objective of any revolution; otherwise, our people will never enjoy the real freedom as prescribed in the Freedom Charter that all shall be equal before the law.

It is on those bases the SACP will work with the Dvunge Trust to resolve the matter as soon as possible through all the relevant departments and other interested parties.

The PWC raised serious concerns about the education system, which continues to produce graduates misaligned with the demands of the artificial intelligence era, worsening unemployment.

The PWC also reflected on global conflicts and welcomed progressive shifts towards peace, especially in the US-Israel war against Iran, while reiterating its anti-war stance. We reiterate our solidarity with the victims of the imperialist offensive.

We welcome the pronouncements made by the South African government to unite the SADC region and the African continent.
