The South African Communist Party (SACP) conveys its heartfelt condolences to the family of iconic musician, Latozi Madosini Mpahleni (79). The SACP also sends its condolences to the entire arts fraternity.
Her innovative approach to the making and playing of the Uhadi, Umrhubhe & Isitolotolo propelled her to iconic status, while her continuous use of her Indigenous language, Xhosa, in music composition proved her to be a truly patriotic South African committed to developing South African talent and languages. The youth of our country is, and indeed must be, inspired by Madosini’s work in her lifelong work to preserve South African heritage through music.
In tribute to Latozi Madosini Mphahleni, the SACP calls upon the development of Indigenous languages in the arts sector – and beyond. This has now become urgent in light of the almost-unbridled invasion of our shores by imperialistic cultures which, in the process, suppress our own history and heritage.
