The South African Communist Party (SACP) conveys its heartfelt condolences to the family of Professor Hlengiwe Mkhize.
The SACP also conveys its deepest condolences to the ANC Women’s League, in which she served as the Treasurer, the African National Congress and the entire liberation movement, which she served with diligence.
The SACP further sends its condolences to the President of the Republic, in whose office she served as Deputy Minister for Women, Youth, and Persons with Disabilities.
Professor Mkhize was a stalwart of the South African struggle for social emancipation.
Professor Mkhize leaves a shining legacy in so far as her contribution to the struggle for gender equality is concerned. She dedicated her knowledge and skills to advocate for women’s access to land and the economy at large.
The SACP appreciates Professor Mkhize’s contribution to the Party’s campaign for gender equality. Professor Mkhize made a sterling contribution as a panelist at the SACP’s Josie Mpama Gender Equality Seminar Series on 12 January 2021. The seminar unpacked the type of behaviours that drive gender-based violence in society.
In memory of Professor Hlengiwe Mkhize, the SACP calls for the strengthening of the women’s movement to deepen the national democratic revolution.
The fight against gender inequality necessarily demands the unity of the working class to combat the crisis of social reproduction; the entrenched problem of the inability of many households to support life itself because of unemployment, poverty, inequality, and other consequences of the system of capitalist exploitation.
