Mbuyabo Nkosinathi C

Orbituary of late comrade Nkosinathi Chris Mbuyabo Nkosinathi Christopher Mbuyabo was born at Ecintsa in East London on the 23rd December 1967. Nko as he was populary known is the fourth child out of six children of Mrs Nokuna and Kanana Mbuyabo. He received his early education at Msundulu Primary School and Nkwenkwezi Secondary School respectively.

At Nkwenkwezi Secondary School comrade Nkosinathi was at the forefront in the struggle to get SRC established and recongnized in the school. In school and outside school he fought gallantly against the Homeland Regime. After the unbanning of political organizations, comrade Nko established a branch of the ANC Youth League in Welcomewood and he was elected as the chairperson, a position which he reluctantly accepted as his mission was to focus in the estabhlishment of more progressive structures in the area.

Comrade Nko left Easten Cape in 1993 for Cape Town. He resided in Khayelitsha and and continued his involvement with progressive structures such as African National Congress (ANC), South African Communist Party (SACP) and Community Development.

In 1992, Khayelitsha Education Resource and Information Centre (KERIC) was established. This project found it difficult to take off the ground. In 1993 Nkosinathi was deployed strategically in KERIC. He became an obvious choice because of his outstanding abilities and skills.

In 1994 development process started to unfold in Khayelitsha and Nkosinathi played an outstanding role in that process. He became one of the first Community Liason (CLO) to coordinatoe the developmental activities especially in Macassar.

Inorder for the ANC to be a true government of the people constituency offices were established. Comrade Nkosinathi was identified as the suitable comrade to administer constituency office. His deployment did not come as a surprise as he was instrumental in the establishment of vibrant branches of ANC and SACP at Solomon Mahlangu.

Comrade Nko was central from the initial process of Khayelitsha Development Forum and he became secretary of one of the strongest affiliates of the KDF called Macassar Development Forum (MDF). Nkosinathi did not find it difficult to link politics with development as he simultaneously became the coordinator of the Independent Development Trust (IDT). He also put his efforts in the Adult Basic Education and Training (ABET). In 1997 he became a member of the governing body of Impumalanga Learning Centre.

After Red October Campaign of the SACP IN 1999, the SACP in the Western Cape felt it necessary to oil its machinery in the provincial office. Nko was approached to avail himself as an administrator. As a committed communist comrade Nko did not hesitate to take the challenge. At the time of his untimely death he was still an administrator of the South African Communist Party in the Western Cape.
