ANC, SACP and COSATU strongly condemn attack on the Chris Hani Memorial Site, call for investigation to bring the perpetrators to book

Monday, 28 November 2022:

The Alliance comprising the African National Congress, the South African Communist Party and the Congress of South African Trade Unions strongly condemn the vandalising of the Chris Hani Memorial Site at the Thomas Nkobi Cemetery in Boksburg.

Law enforcement authorities must move swiftly to investigate who is behind the provocative attack, to bring them to book.

The vandalising of the Chris Hani Memorial Site discovered by the Ekurhuleni municipal officials when they reported for duty on Monday, 28 November 2022, is tantamount to a continuation of Chris Hani's assassination in his grave.

The provocative attack comes in the same week the Constitutional Court ordered the Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Ronald Lamola, to place Janusz Walu? on parole within 10 days.

The judgment pleased unrepentant apartheid perpetrators, who celebrated, while the family of the victim, Chris Hani, and other victims of apartheid were hurt and deeply disappointed. This is how South Africa has now become redivided. It is in this context that the attack on the Chris Hani Memorial Site occurred, posing a threat to societal stability, just as the assassination of Chris Hani did.

Walu? virtually succeeded in plunging South Africa into civil war when he pulled the trigger on 10 April 1993, assassinating Chris Hani in cold blood.
