The Communist Party of Britain

Dear Comrades,

Please accept warmest congratulations from the Communist Party of Britain to the South African Communist Party on the occasion of your 90th anniversary.
The revolutionary deeds, sacrifices and achievements of the SACP throughout its history continue to provide hope, inspiration and confidence to Communists, socialists and progressive minded people in Britain and across the world.

Our two parties have always maintained a strong and historic connection through the struggle against British colonialism, against apartheid and after the 1994 democratic breakthrough. Whether through the British anti-apartheid movement or individuals such as Jimmy Shields, Sean Hosey, Jean Middleton, Dave Kitson and Alan Brooks, to name but a few, we continue to draw great pride and strength from the assistance that British Communists provided to our South African comrades during your struggle against the vicious apartheid regime.

We pay tribute to the ideological and practical contribution that the SACP continues to make in the struggle for socialism in South Africa, in the strengthening of the international communist movement and in developing and providing assistance to progressive and left forces across the African continent.

Today, the working classes and peoples of Europe, Africa and across the globe, face enormous challenges in the wake of the ongoing capitalist crisis. We believe that the SACP can and will play a crucial role in confronting these challenges and resolving them in the interests of the South African people and of all the peoples of our planet.

Viva the South Africa Communist Party! Viva the Communist Party of Britain! Viva the international Communist movement!

In warmest comradeship,

Robert Griffiths
General Secretary
