Greeting to the South African Communist Party on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of its foundation
28 July 2011
Dear comrades of the South African Communist Party,
On behalf of the members of the Communist Party of Australia, I send warmest greetings of solidarity on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the founding of your great Party. Your momentous struggle against Apartheid is still remembered and continues to be an inspiration for Communists everywhere that victory can be achieved against what appear to be insurmountable odds. That struggle united your people with the progressive sections of the Australian people in an unbreakable bond – people united against racism, exploitation and injustice no matter where those curses manifest themselves. Many Australians became active in campaigns against the abomination that was Apartheid and learned many enduring political lessons.
Our Party respects the work of the SACP in building a new South Africa in difficult conditions. Your Party’s commitment to the united work of charting a new course while adhering to principle and keeping the focus on the ultimate goal of socialism is well recognised. Our movement in Australia celebrated the 90th anniversary of its foundation last year and was an opportunity to reflect on our achievements but, more importantly, to consider how to carry forward this legacy of struggle and defence of the interests of working and other exploited people. We are sure the occasion will be useful for the comrades of your Party. Congratulations on your work and reaching this wonderful milestone.
