SACP condemns killings of police at Engcobo Police Station

21 February 2018

The South African Communist Party (SACP) in the Eastern Cape condemns in the strongest terms possible the attack on police officials that took place at the Engcobo Police Station in the early hours of today. Five police officials were killed by armed criminals at the police station.

The attack is a reflection of a weak crime intelligence capacity that has been compromised my criminal infiltration. The SACP is calling for the strengthening and professionalisation of the security cluster for safer communities. The state must put more efforts in bolstering the security systems in the police stations to ensure the safety of police officers and officials. There must be swift action to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book.

The SACP conveys its heartfelt condolences to the families of the fallen members of police service and the Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (POPCRU). All the officers were its members.
