SACP Western Cape welcomes the conviction of Anene Booysen’s Murderer

30 October 2013, Cape Town

The South African Communist Party (SACP) in the Western Cape Province welcomes the conviction of Johannes Kana – the rapist and murderer of Anene Booysen.

The rape and murder of Anene Booysen will go down in history as one of the most brutal and ruthless evils that the human species has ever suffered.

As the SACP we have always believed that such heinous crimes are an affront to the advances our country and movement acheived in the fight against patriarchy. We believe violence against the vulnerable, women and children is a reflection of the structure of capitalist exploitation which thrives on class, racial and gender inequalities, among others just to mention but a few.

The conviction of Kana should serve as deterrent to criminals. In contrast to opportunist elements who sought to co-opt Anene Booysen’s rape and murder case for political expedience, the conviction of Kana boosts public confidence in the functioning of our police and justice systems.

The SACP wishes encourage the police, the justice system and the community to act swiftly and decisively in combating such heinous crimes perpetrated against women and children.

As the SACP we are looking forward to maximum sentences against Kana and others who have committed similar crimes.
