SACP Dr Yusuf Dadoo District statement on the terrible conditions found in Bekkersdaal

10 October 2013

The SACP District Executive Committee met on the 09th October 2013, at NEHAWU Office in Krugersdorp to engaged on the conditions that the people of Bekkersdaal are forced to leave under on a daily basis.

The DEC thank the community of Bekkersdaal for their tolerance of poor service delivery by the municipality which has existed for the past 15 years.

The district supports the call by the community of Bekkersdaal for the Department of Cooperative Governance under the Minister to place the municipality under administration. We concur with the call precisely because the municipality has continue to fail to attend to the challenges facing the community and more importantly the municipality will not be able to attend to the challenges since it doesn`t have the capacity to do so.

What makes matters worse is the bad attitude by the Executive Mayor and some councillors towards the community as shown during her interview on eNCA recently. Her attitude as displayed during the interview confirms all what the community presented to the delegation of the SACP during our interaction with the community.

We want to place on record that the SACP has during the month of September and October 2013, visited the community three times and met with different community members. The first visit was with the 2nd Deputy General Secretary, the second was with the Provincial Secretary as well as the recent one on the 05th October 2013.

On the 05th October the community showed the delegation of the SACP projects that were started during 2007, of which to date they are still incomplete. The challenges of the sewerage system is indeed a thorny issue in the community of Bekkersdaal.

Given the attitude of the Executive Mayor the SACP will engage the African National Congress to consider recalling the Executive Mayor. It is the view of the SACP in the district that the Mayor has failed to be the face of the ANC in government and that the call of the community in this regard should be seriously considered by the ANC.

The SACP in the district also note that all these challenges have existed and continue to exist under the same leadership of the ANC in the Region. Clearly the Regional leadership of the ANC has dismally failed to engage and deal with the challenges that faces the community of Bekkersdaal over the years. It is that same leadership that continues to preside over poor performing councillors and Mayors without any action.

The SACP wish to indicate that it has attempted to bring these issues and many other challenges to the attention of the ANC in the Region without any success. We therefore call on the national leadership of the ANC to intervene to resolve the challenges that is being faced by the community of Bekkersdaal.
