8 January 2013
The SACP congratulates the ANC on the occasion of its 101st anniversary on January 8 2013. The official celebrations of this oldest liberation movement on the African continent, will be held on the 12th January at Ethekwini, and the SACP is already part of the preparations activities and will also form part of the main celebration where we will deliver a message.
Over the years the ANC has led the liberation of our people with utmost humility and this has won the ANC a special place in the minds and hearts of our ordinary people. It is for this reason that our people have continued to entrust the ANC with a mandate to govern our country.
As it happened in the period when we were fighting for liberation, our democratic dispensation has been filled up with many challenges. Under apartheid there where those who when faced with challenges surrendered and co-operated with the regime. Most of them were rewarded handsomely for turning against the ANC and preaching a message of doom against the struggle for liberation. Today, in the wake of systemic challenges we have, we are seeing a resurrection of voices with a similar agenda, that of spreading a message of doom and surrender. Disappointed by democratic victories and advances spearheaded by the ANC, including a highly successful 53rd ANC Conference in Mangaung, the critics have become more vulgar in their tone and yet enjoy media support, no different from their apartheid era types and predecessors.
The SACP wish to say to our ally, in the face of such hostility, the ANC must strive to remain a humble servant of the poor and to radically change their lives for the better. In the current period there is no organization that is better placed to lead this effort, other than the ANC.
As the ANC turns 101 the primary task is to prioritise the needs of our people. High unemployment levels, poverty and growing inequalities should be challenges that pre-occupy us. Only the ANC and a united alliance will deliver a different and better country to our people. As the ANC turns 101 it must remain focused on the task of fighting corruption as our biggest enemy today, especially within our ranks.
Happy 101 Birthday!
