SACP statement on the news of the accident of Morgan Tsvangarai

8 March 2009

The South African Communist Party received with great shock, news of the passing of Mrs Susan Tsvangarai, the wife to Zimbabwean Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangarai, following a tragic car accident.

We wish to convey the SACP’s heartfelt condolences to Prime Minister Tsvangarai, his family, the MDC and all the people of Zimbabwe.

This is a great loss for Prime Minister Tsvangarai, his family and The nation. Like all mothers, Mrs Tsvangarai was the greatest pillar of strength and support to her husband, more so in the last decade of political upheaval she described as "an endurance test".

As we wish Prime Minister Tsvangarai a full and speedy recovery from his injuries, we agree that a full investigation into the circumstances of the tragic accident is both necessary and fundamental.
