SACP welcomes the passing of the Broadcasting Amendment Bill

21 November 2008

The SACP welcome the passage of the broadcasting amendment bill this week by the National assembly. Contrary to what the DA and other opposition parties intend doing, we urge the president to sign the bill into law without any delay and condemn in strongest terms the maneuvers to petition the president on this matter.

The SACP reiterates its call for the current board to be dissolved as it is unrepresentative and has proven beyond any reasonable doubt that it has no capacity to lead the corporation. The current board as it stands is nothing else but an instrument of the particular section of the elite in society.

The consultation with Political parties by the current board is in our view a fruitless exercise because the current board and the biasness of the news division make it impossible for the SABC to cover political parties without bias. In fact these consultations are nothing but a public relations exercise and an attempt to fool our people that the SABC is impartial. As the SACP we shall have nothing to do with this charade. As we have said, the current board and the senior news team is nothing else but a mouthpiece for the Gang of three (Shilowa, Lekota and George) + one (Smuts Ngonyama) and their supporters.

It is a well known fact that this board is the product of the manipulation by Smuts Ngonyama clearly in preparation of what they are doing now.

The SACP stands for the public broadcaster that is fair, impartial and biased towards the overwhelming majority of our people, the poor and the working class.
