The SACP welcomes the swearing in of Cde Kgalema Motlanthe as the third President of a democratic South Africa. We wish to warmly congratulate Kgalema Motlanthe, fondly known within our ranks as ‘Mkhuluwa’, and wish him all the best as he leads the government effort to confront the many daunting challenge facing our country and our revolution. These include the challenges of job creation, eradication of poverty, fighting the HIV/AIDS scourge, defending the cost of living for the workers and the poor, and the creation of a better life for all.
The SACP welcomes this development as representing a NEW DAWN in our country, and an opportunity to improve relations between our government and the allies of the African National Congress, the SACP and COSATU, as well as a new opportunity to bring government even closer to the people. We commit ourselves to continue to support this ANC-led government, and look forward to robust, but constructive engagement, around the number of key policy challenges facing our young democracy.
As a respected and well-grounded cadre of our movement we are confident that you will heed our own movement’s clarion call over the decade, that ours was never a revolution to replace one elite by another, but that it is about ensuring that indeed the people shall govern and that the wealth our country shall be shared by all. ‘Mkhuluwa’ is well known within the ranks of the SACP. He is indeed a truly humble son of workers of our country, and truly understands the needs and aspirations of the ordinary people of our country.
The SACP as the vanguard party of South Africa’s working class remains committed to mobilize the workers and the poor of our country to buttress the implementation of the many progressive policies of our government, as well as the policies adopted at the Polokwane Conference in December last year.
We call on all our people and our members to support this new administration.
