3 July 2008
The SACP has received with sadness the news of the passing away of our struggle hero, Cde Joe Nhlanhla, former Minister of Intelligence.
Cde Nhlanhla dedicated his entire life to the struggle against apartheid and was a dedicated cadre and leader of the National Liberation movement. He served the ANC in various capacities whilst in exile and upon his return played a very critical role in the negotiations for South Africa’s transition to democracy.
He played a significant role in the first democratic government as the Deputy Minister of Intelligence and later appointed Minister of Intelligence in 1999.
Cde Joe succumbed to sickness and subsequently then resigned from all his positions in government and in parliament.
The SACP extends its condolences to members of his family, friends, colleagues and comrades in the ANC.
Issued by the SACP.
