The SACP would like to congratulate Cde Senzeni Zokwana, President of NUM and a member of the Politburo of the SACP, for his election as President of International Chemical, Energy and Mineworkers and General Workers Union, ICEM.
Cde Zokwana has risen through the ranks of the NUM to play this leadership role globally and we hope that he will continue with his sterling work to fight for the workers and the vulnerable who fall victim to the vicious greed of capitalist mining and energy multinationals.
His election confirms the strong bond between the working class and the poor of the world with that of South Africa and the fact that we need to deepen working class and internationalist solidarity for a better world. A humane and alternative world is indeed possible.
The SACP wishes him luck in his new leadership role.
