SACP celebrates it 86 years of Communist Activism

This year marks the 86 years of existence of the SACP. The SACP was formed on the 29th July 1921 in Cape Town. For 86 years South African communists have been in the forefront of the struggles of the workers and poor of our country.

• It was the Communist Party in South Africa that first advanced the slogan "one-person, one-vote".
• It was the Communist Party that pioneered progressive trade unionism and journalism in our country.
• The Communist Party was the first political formation in South Africa to advance non-racialism, not just in theory but in our own internal organisational work.
• It was Communist Party activists, like Dora Tamana, who ran cooperatives in informal settlements in the 1940s and 50s.
• And it is Communists who have always been numbered among the outstanding martyrs of the struggle - Johannes Nkosi, Vuyisile Mini, Alpheus Maliba, Basil February, Ahmed Timol, Matthew Goniwe, Chris Hani, and many more.

The SACP of today is built on a tradition of 86 unbroken fighting years!

As we celebrate our anniversary, we are a South African Communist Party with more than 51,000 members. It is the largest membership ever in our history. We have more than doubled in size since 2002

To mark the celebrations of the 86 years of communist activism, a national rally will be held as follows:
