The South African Communist Party (SACP) calls on the government of Nigeria and the African Union to ensure that Amina Lawal is not murdered as was decided by a Muslim Sharia court in Nigeria.
The SACP believes that this decision reflects the continuing oppression of, and discrimination against women, and the need to intensify the struggle for gender equality throughout the African continent and the world.
The SACP salutes the African National Congress Women’s League (ANCWL) for its pioneering campaign to save the life of Amina Lawal – a campaign which has been supported by diverse organisations and communities throughout our country.
The SACP calls on all South Africans to support this campaign and thus highlight the plight of all women in the world.
