SACP Launches the Chris Hani 10th Anniversary Memorial Month

The month of April 2003 marks the tenth anniversary of the murder of the late General Secretary of the South African Communist Party, Chris Martin Thembisile Hani. Hani was murdered on 10 April 1993.

The 10th Anniversary Chris Hani Memorial Month will be launched through the Chris Hani Poverty Eradication Trail to be held as follows:

DATE : Friday, 04 April 2003; TIME : 10h00 – 14h00
VENUE : Hani’s home village in Sabalele, Cofimvaba, Eastern Cape
SPEAKERS : Blade Nzimande – SACP General Secretary, Provincial Leaders of the ANC, COSATU and SANCO

Other activities for the Chris Hani 10th Anniversary Memorial Month include:

As the SACP, we remember Hani as a fighter against poverty and job losses. In 1992, Hani led the SACP to launch the Health-Housing-Hunger Campaign. Through this campaign, Hani was making a contribution to improving the living conditions of all our people. During this period, Hani said “Socialism is not about big concepts… It is about safe drinking water… health care… a life of dignity”.
