Blade Nzimande to Address Aids Consortium - Reporting Back On NEDLAc Summit on the Financial Sector

The General Secretary of the South African Communist Party (SACP), Blade Nzimande, will address the AIDS Consortium tomorrow as detailed below.

The AIDS Consortium is the largest network of grassroots based AIDS Service organisations in South Africa. It brings together more than 400 community based organisations working in townships and informal settlements which have HIV/AIDS prevalence rates. It has worked on various campaigns including the Treatment Action Campaign and is a member of the Basic Income Grant Coalition.

Nzimande’s address to the AIDS Consortium will include the following:

• Report of the NEDLAC Financial Sector Summit held in August including the agreement on HIV/AIDS insurance for mortgage loans
• Mobilisation of AIDS Service Organisation behind co-operatives as part of the intervention against HIV/AIDS
• The role of AIDS Service Organisations in building burial societies as a basis for funeral insurance collectively owned by the people
