As part of, and in the midst of our Red October 2002 campaign, the first ever edition of Umsebenzi Online will be available from the website of the South African Communist Party (SACP) from 16 October 2002.
As announced yesterday, Umsebenzi Online is an exclusively electronic publication of the SACP to be published on the first and third Wednesday of every month.
The contents of the first edition are as follows;
1. Red Alert: In the aftermath of the COSATU-led protest actions
2. Telkom: The New Pyramid Scheme?
3. Last Week in Palestine
4. World Communists oppose US war in Iraq
The “Red Alert” column will be the main piece in Umsebenzi Online. http://www.sacp.org.za/umsebenzi/online/
Like its print counterpart, Umsebenzi (The Worker), we seek to make it the political voice of South Africa’s working class. Its specific purpose is to analyse current topical issues in our country, our continent and globally, from the standpoint and perspectives of South African communists.
In the light of a South Africa ideologically suffocated by bourgeois ideas in the bourgeois media, we hope this will be an important addition to the growing list of progressive and left on-line publications. It will be unashamedly and unapologetically communist and seek to provide on-going and timely analysis of topical political developments and working class struggles in our country and in the world. It will not replace the print version of Umsebenzi, but will supplement it, as part of the ongoing struggle in the battle of ideas on what kind of South Africa and the world we want to build.
