On the eve of a mass rally against conscription into the Israeli Defence Force planned for 20h00 tonight in Tel Aviv, the South African Communist Party salutes Israeli war resisters who have resisted and objected to being recruited into the cruel and racist Israeli Defence Force.
Similar to what the apartheid regime did, the Israeli government is holding more than 1000 refusniks (conscientious objectors) in prison for their principled objection to take part in the Israeli Defence Force and thus the subjugation, repression and oppression of the people of Palestine.
The SACP regards the stand taken by the refusniks as exemplary and principled. In fact, the SACP issues a call to all Jewish South Africans to take courage and leadership from the refusniks and stand for peace, justice, freedom and democracy in order that an independent and sovereign Palestinian state may be realised.
The SACP reiterates its solidarity with the people and just cause of Palestine.
The SACP calls on all South Africans to continue with their solidarity with Palestine and for a just and peaceful solution.
