The South African Communist Party (SACP) echoes the calls made by the community of Bophelong today for a full investigation of the assassination of Comrade Luyanda Bizzah Makhuphula. These calls were made and reiterated at today's moving memorial service hosted by the community of Bophelong township in the Vaal for the late Comrade Makhuphula who was assassinated outside his home on the evening of Friday, 02 November 2001.
The Vaal District of the South African Communist Party (SACP) expressed its shock and anger at the cold-blooded assassination of Comrade Makhuphula . He was working as a labour inspector for the Department of Labour in Vanderbijlpark.
Comrade Makhuphula was the Deputy Chairperson of the SACP Bophelong branch and an Executive Committee member of the ANC Bophelong branch. He is a long-standing activist of our movement from his days as a student activist in COSAS in Mdantsane, East London. He was one of the founder members of the Food and Allied Worker's Unions (FAWU) in the 1980s. He also served as a SASCO leader at the University of the Western Cape and a leader of the United Democratic Front.
His death is a massive blow to the working class movement in our country.
We share the pain and grief of his family. We appeal to his family to be strong and calm during this difficult period, said Jabu Khambule, SACP Vaal District Secretary.
He will be buried in his family home in Mdantsane, East London on 17 November 2001.
