As part of the Red October Campaign to Make Banks Serve the People, the South African Communist Party (SACP), its General Secretary, Blade Nzimande will visit the community of Tarlton in Krugersdorp (West Rand).
Through this visit the SACP will be reporting to the people of Tarlton about how far the campaign to make banks serve the people is. Through this visit the SACP will also listen to the people of Tarlton in order to collect and consolidate demands from the people on how to fundamentally transform the entire financial sector in our country. This is in advance of the NEDLAC Summit on the financial sector now scheduled to be held in January 2002.
Led by the Ya Rona Building Construction Co-operatives Limited (YABCCO) the impoverished community of Tarlton is struggling around a community driven housing building programme. They are facing massive difficulties with private developers, in accessing resources and receiving sufficient support from various authorities. During this visit Comrade Nzimande will also:

The experience of Tarlton is important. It highlights the importance of building co-operatives and mobilising communities behind the Campaign to transform and diversify the financial sector, said Blade Nzimande.
