The General Secretary of the South African Communist Party (SACP), Blade Nzimande, and the President of the Congress of South African Trade Union (COSATU), Willie Madisha will address the Global March Against Racism to be held in Durban as detailed below.

DATE: Saturday, 01 September 2001
TIME: 10h30 - 11h30
VENUE:Curries Fountain Stadium, Durban

In his speech, Comrade Nzimande will emphasise the need to continue the international struggle against racism and all its manifestations. He will also focus on the need to link this struggle to two other twin evils of racism capitalist exploitation and gender oppression in society. The legacy of apartheid cannot be addressed fundamentally without at the same addressing the realities of capitalism and gender oppression in South Africa, said Blade Nzimande.

Comrade Madisha's speech will cover the role of organised workers in the struggle against racism in the South African context. Organised workers cannot dare leave this struggle to an elite. It is black workers who are most exploited and worst victims of the legacy of apartheid, said Zwelinzima Vavi, COSATU General Secretary.

The march will also be addressed by Deputy President Jacob Zuma and will end with the handing over of a memorandum to the UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan.
