SACP SG Blade Nzimande to Visit Alexandra Township

The General Secretary of the South African Communist Party (SACP), Blade Nzimande, will lead a Worker's and People's Assembly in Alexandra as part of the continuing 80th SACP Anniversary Celebrations this weekend. This Assembly will take place as detailed below.

VENUE : Thusong Youth Centre, 12th Avenue, Alexandra, Johannesburg

The visit to Alexandra by Blade Nzimande will follow the launch by President Mbeki of the Alexandra Urban Renewal Project. Therefore, the Alexandra Worker's and People's Assembly will also address local issues and problems as it will include the following:

The visit will start with a march from the former house of Moses Kotane (House number 34, 11th Avenue, Alexandra) to Thusong Youth Centre. Kotane was the longest serving General Secretary of the SACP from 1939 until his death in 1978.

As part of the SACP's 80th Anniversary, the Alexandra Assembly will also be a public forum for thousands of poor and working people in Alexandra to talk about the SACP, how the SACP can help in winning a better life for all, what they want the SACP to do and how they themselves can build the SACP and contribute to the struggle for socialism.

Details of other Assemblies which will take place this weekend will be announced in due course. All these Assemblies will culminate in a national rally to be held in Durban on the 29 July which is the exact date of the first day of the founding Congress of the SACP 80 years ago.
