In the late evening of Monday 23rd November, the National Organiser and Finance Officer of the SACP were hijacked while driving in Thokoza (east of Johannesburg). Fortunately, the comrades were not injured by the two gun-wielding youth who forced them out of the car and drove off. The hijacked vehicle happened to be the car of the late SACP General Secretary, Comrade Chris Hani, and as such has tremendous historical and sentimental value to the SACP and its members.
The SACP condemns this cowardly act and calls upon the SAPS and the community of Thokoza to do all they can to track down the culprits and return the vehicle (1990 Grey Toyota Corolla – registration number BNF477GP ) to the SACP.
