Factionalism and the African National Congress (ANC)'s poor performance in the local government elections are some of the issues that will feature prominently at the South African Communist Party (SACP)'s provincial congress in Mpumalanga.
The three-day congress in Mbombela will also elect new provincial leaders.
Four hundred voting delegates are reflecting on the inchallenges faced by the tripartite alliance. Among them, the ANC's decline in support, factionalism and state capture.
Mpumalanga's Young Communist League (YCL) secretary Tinyiko Ntini says, "We can't turn a blind eye on the results of the local government elections, the ANC has suffered a huge lost."
Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) Life Monini says, "It can't be business as usual, the alliance is bleeding, something has to be done."
South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco) Phakamile Thwala says, "We are saying state institutions must not be used to fight factional battles and purging of comrades."
The ANC acknowledges challenges and says they are already being addressed.
Mpumalanga provincial secretary Mandla Ndlovu says, "We are not in denial, these issues need to be looked into thoroughly as we prepare for the next elections."
The new leadership will be announced on Sunday.
