CAPE TOWN – Blade Nzimande received a warm welcome from tripartite supporters at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology's (CPUT) CBD campus this afternoon.

The South African Communist Party's (SACP) general secretary is campaigning ahead of the next week's local government elections.

A roaring applause and singing crowd of around 200 supporters welcomed Nzimande at CPUT.

Campaigning for its tripartite alliance partner, the African National Congress (ANC), the higher education minister is urging students to support the African National Congress in the upcoming municipal elections.

"We need this youth energy. We need your energy comrades, so that the ANC can perform really well in this local government elections (sic)."

Slating the Democratic Alliance in the city for only caring for the wealthier areas, Nzimande says it is the youth's responsibility to enforce what he calls much-needed change.
