JOHANNESBURG - The South African Communist Party (SACP) says it's time for President Jacob Zuma and members of Parliament implicated in the Constitutional Court's Nkandla judgment to self-reflect and take decisive action.

The party held a meeting at the weekend to discuss the judgment which found that Zuma failed to uphold the Constitution, relating to the spending on non-security features at his home.

The SACP has called for a broader inquiry into the Nkandla matter.

Spokesperson Alex Mashilo says the party has called for a meeting with the African National Congress (ANC) to discuss the role played by some of its members in the saga.

"This includes engagement on these matters and collective work to ask ourselves questions and to look at the judgment as a whole. This includes the role that's been played by all members of Parliament, including members of the SACP."

The party believes that the president's apology is not enough.

Mashilo says Parliament shouldn't be narrowly defensive to the Constitutional Court judgment.

"They've got to ask themselves how these things happened the way they did, they've got to look into their role."

The SACP's statement comes on the back of comments by anti-apartheid stalwart Ahmed Kathrada, who said he could not continue to relate to a president who hac been unanimously found to have failed to uphold and defend the Constitution.

Kathrada has released what he calls an "agonising" letter to Zuma, calling on Zuma to submit to the will of the people and resign.
