The South African Communist Party (SACP) has welcomed the decision by Justice Minister Michael Masutha to appeal a ruling granting Janusz Waluś' parole.
Walus was imprisoned nearly 23 years ago for the murder of the late SACP leader Chris Hani in 1993.
SACP spokesperson Alex Mashilo says the party found several difficulties and loopholes in the judgement.
We said on that day that we will call on the Minister of Justice to appeal the judgement and we are glad that he listened, studied the judgement and arrived at his own independent decision.
- Alex Mashilo, SACP spokesperson
According to Mashilo, the SACP and the Hani family will join the appeal board with their legal team.
