JOHANNESBURG - The South African Communist Party (SACP) has called on the African National Congress (ANC's) senior leadership, specifically its President Jacob Zuma, to cut ties with the Gupta family.

It says their alleged influence merits a full-blown commission of inquiry.

The SACP has also lashed out at the so-called 'premier league', which is made up of the premiers of the North West, Free State and Mpumalanga for allegedly driving a Gupta agenda.

The party says these senior ANC figures have been given airtime on the Gupta family's television station to discredit so-called 'factions in the ANC'.

The SACP's Solly Mapaila says the ruling party must distance itself from the Guptas.

"They use them as a political front to continue to get their objectives - they want to assert their authority on the ANC through its structures. That is the reason why we have called on the ANC senior leadership to distance itself from this faction."
