The Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (Popcru) has distanced itself from allegations that there is a deliberate and orchestrated campaign by some of its members to get rid of non-black members within the South African Police Service (SAPS).

The allegations are contained in a report released in Pretoria today by civil rights union, AfriForum, established by Solidarity. The report states that the campaign is mainly led by members of Popcru.

A sworn statement of admission by a Popcru member is also included in the report.

Boiki Tsedu, a Popcru spokesperson, says they will study the report and consider steps against members making false statements in the name of the trade union.
