Jacob Zuma, the ANC deputy president, and his supporters have been criticised at an SACP gathering in Polokwane which is being attended by President Thabo Mbeki.

This follows yesterday's incident in Pietermaritzburg at the burial of the remains of a struggle stalwart during which Zuma supporters staged a walkout and heckled President Mbeki as he addressed the gathering.

A member of the SACP's provincial executive says he was disappointed that Zuma failed to contain his supporters. The person says Zuma's explanation that they were disrupting an important function was not enough. He says the ANC deputy president should also have referred to the need to respect President Mbeki.
